As principal of Kelly James and Associates, Denny Kelly provides leadership for the firm’s aviation accident investigations. Mr. Kelly has a strong background in aviation, beginning with his service as a U.S. marine. He has assisted in numerous aviation accident investigations in association with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), working closely with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). He is a licensed Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) and a former Braniff Airlines’ captain. While flying for Braniff, Mr. Kelly logged more than 18,000 hours of flight time in a variety of multi-engine heavy jet transports. He has also authored articles and papers on airline and aircraft safety, aircraft accident investigations and flight operations safety and security.

Additionally, Mr. Kelly has more than 34 years’ experience working with both local and U.S. federal law enforcement agencies. He has twice received commendations for heroic actions under fire, among several other notable awards from various police agencies. He has attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) School for Outside Investigators, the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) School for Outside Investigators, and numerous government and private investigative schools. 

Mr. Kelly has been a frequent lecturer at various universities, colleges and law schools on the subject of investigative procedures and practice. He has been interviewed by Time, Business Week, and The Wall Street Journal, and has appeared as an aviation expert on local and national television affiliates for CBS, FOX and NBC.
